How do you contribute to the Humanities and Social Sciences?

We’re now calling for participants for the Humanities and Social Sciences Speaker Series. On Friday, April 15, we’ll have a group keynote composed of professors from the Humanities and the Social Sciences. And on Saturday, April 16, multiple panels of graduate students will showcase their research in front of an interdisciplinary audience.

2016 owl open competition

The OWL Open is the Rice-University-wide business plan competition open to all Rice students, from any field of study. Teams will compete for $10,000 in prizes in front of investors, entrepreneurs, and corporate executives. Winners will also win an invitation to interview for OwlSpark Class 4 in Summer 2016. The winning graduate team will receive automatic entry into the 2016 Rice Business Plan Competition.

The OWL Open is Saturday, February 20 from 8:00am to 1:30pm in McNair Hall.

Derek Woods (English) has two forthcoming publications, “Sanitation and Telepathy: George Eliot’s The Lifted Veil” in the journal Victorian Literature and Culture, and “The Epistemic Thing in Charles and Ray Eames’s Powers of Ten” in the collection Size and Scale in Literature and Culture.

Elena Valdez (English) received a 2016 New Mexico History Scholars Award from the New Mexico Office of the State Historian to research the writings of Aurora Lucero-White and Arthur L. Campa at the Center for Southwest Research.
