monthly HGSA meeting
Our first open meeting of the semester will be on Monday, September 21, from 11:00 to noon in the Dean’s conference room, Humanities 115. All are welcome to attend. We will be discussing the Fall Research Forum, Professionalization Workshops, and the responsibilities of HGSA Representatives.
call for papers: HGSA Fall Research Forum
The first HGSA Research Forum will be held from noon to 1:30 on October 7, 2015. This forum is an opportunity for Humanities graduate students to share their work-in-progress and receive feedback from colleagues and faculty members.
Before the forum, we will circulate the three selected papers. At the forum, each student will have 5-10 minutes to present their work-in-progress. Selected faculty members will then offer comments before opening the floor to a wider discussion.
To submit, send to hgsa@rice.edu:
- a 200-word description of your paper
- suggestions for two Humanities faculty members (one from your department, one from outside your department) to serve as potential readers
Submissions due by September 23, 2015.
We welcome any papers of 15-20 pages: works ranging from unpolished drafts to more polished pieces. If selected, your paper should be ready to circulate by October 2, 2015.
call for accomplishments
Celebrate your achievements! Keep us informed about your conference participation, fellowships, and anything else noteworthy that demonstrates the achievements of Rice Humanities grad students. Send your name and department along with any information about your accomplishment to hgsa@rice.edu or your HGSA representative.
call for workshop suggestions
We would like your help planning this semester’s professionalization workshops! The professionalization workshops are opportunities to bring in speakers who can address issues that directly affect us as Humanities graduate students. Whether you’re interested in hearing more about jobs outside of academia, fellowship applications, teaching related issues, the publishing process, or another relevant issue, we’d love to hear from you. If you have a speaker in mind or a topic you’d like to see us cover, please email us at hgsa@rice.edu!
